The Artist: Marita Tathariel Svensson

Tolkien, elves and Celtic culture are just a few things that inspire multi-artist and jewelry designer Marita Tathariel Svensson. By creating lifelike sculptures, there are many who ask Svensson whether they actually are alive.

Multi-artist and craftswoman Tathariel Maria Svensson from Fredrikstad has a lot on her plate. She is a jewelry designer with his own shop, in addition to illustrate and not to mention creating lifelike sculptures. The Fredrikstad-girl tells Pegasus what has been the biggest inspiration in the versatile art:

* I find inspiration everywhere. I'm a big fan of Tolkien's world, and even my name is inspired by the elven language in Lord of the Rings. Otherwise I am very fond of medieval fantasy, not to mention Celtic culture. Inspiration can also be found in the people I meet, seasons, weather, feelings, good books, movies and especially in nature.


Marita explains that she is fascinated by the planet and thrives best away from the hustle and bustle of the city. She finds peace and inspiration in nature, which she also likes to reflect and recreate through her own fantasy world.

Sculpted or alive?

Through Tathariel Creations, Marita has received particular attention for her clay sculptures, which she forms into magical beings like elves, fairies, dragons and people of all ages with vivid and human features. Many have wondered whether they are real and living:

* Many people would like to touch them, and some have said they had to study them close up, to see if the sculptures breathe or blink. I often get questions about what they're made of, and people are generally interested in the process. This amuses me a lot!


Through Tathariel Creations and jewelry business Pixefy, Marita has a clear message:

- I want with my art to bring back and share a little magic with the world! I think people need to be better at enjoying the little things and let their imagination run free.
